A sales proposal as the name suggests is a proposal written to sell something, in some cases these may be bids on project. There is an art and a format to successful sales proposals, just writing something down just because you feel it is the right way to target a potential client is not the correct way and in many cases it will be ineffective. Many businesses tend to hire expert sales proposal writers who have many years of experience tempting clients with their tantalizing copy, however if you can’t afford to hire a writer you will have to write the sales proposal yourself. Writing a sales proposal can be difficult especially if you haven’t written a proposal before. The first impression is made in the form of the right format, fortunately a sales proposal template can ensure that you are using the right format.

When searching online for a sales proposal template finding one can be difficult since they are many to choose from. The best templates are those which are customer centered i.e. they focus on what the potential client is looking for. The advantage of using this type of template is the fact that it focuses on what your potential clients want and hence helps you grab their attention. This increases your chances of getting hired for a project. Many businesses make the mistake of just mentioning how good their service is over all others without really telling the client how they can help them the best. Clients don’t want to read canned messages they want to know what you can do for them and a customer centered sales proposal helps you achieve just that.

A well written sales proposal will outline all the essential points so that it grabs the client’s attention and urges them to read on. Many clients will mention exactly what they want in the letter and so you will have to follow the format they have outlined. You can also modify your existing sales proposal template to accommodate their requirements. Many people attempt to grab the client’s attention by writing their proposal in an FAQ type format which is great if only you can mention the right questions so that the client gets involved. Unfortunately many of these FAQ type sales proposals don’t work as well as they should and unless otherwise instructed this format should be avoided.

When writing a sales proposal you should refrain from using long sentences and filling out pages just so that you look professional. The best way is to keep things simple and short. Keep your word count as low as possible so that the people who review your proposal don’t feel overwhelmed when they browse through it. You should add graphs, charts and other graphics to keep things interesting and easy to understand. The graphics you add should help you tell your story to the client which convinces them of your service. However try to avoid adding too many graphics as that can often lead to confusion.
